Baklava

Ingredients

Ingredients:
4 cups of walnuts
1/4 cup almonds
2 tsp ground clove
2 tsp cinnamon
1 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 pack of phyllo dough (thawed)

Syrup:
2 cups of sugar
1 cup water
1/2 cup honey
2 sticks of cinnamon
4 cloves
1 1/2 tbs lemon juice or orange juice

Instructions

Syrup:

  1. Combine, let boil for 5. (My yiayia would make this the day before for optimal deliciousness.)
  2. In a food processor, combine 4 cups walnuts and a sprinkle of almonds, process until fine.
  3. Add in 1 tsp or ground cloves and one tsp cinnamon
  4. Grind on high for a few seconds
  5. Transfer to a bowl and put 1 cup of granulated sugar and another tsp of clove and cinnamon
  6. Butter your pan ALL OVAH
  7. Lay down two layers of phyllo dough completely covering the pan, sprinkle melted butter all ova, and sprinkle nuts thinly
  8. Keep going until you run out of everything
  9. Pre cut! You’re going to cut horizontal lines and then diagonal lines to make the diamond shape that I didn’t do well here.
  10. The last layer should be a couple layers of phyllo dough and slather melted butter on top
  11. Bake at 325 for one hour, careful that it doesn’t burn
